Heavy truck pile-up claims three lives

Another major accident involving heavy trucks on the N3 highway, days after a horrific crash outside Harrismith on the same stretch of road, killed three people.

Two of the deceased burned to death as one truck caught fire.

KwaZulu-Natal transport department spokeswoman Zinhle Mngomezulu said four trucks were involved in the collision. A driver on his way to Johannesburg lost control and veered onto the south- bound lane towards Durban.

“He sideswiped a second truck and collided head-on with a third,” said Mngomezulu.

A fourth truck, also on its way to Durban, drove straight into the wreckage.

Authorities closed the lane between the Engen One Stop and Tugela Plaza near Estcourt. Traffic was diverted through Bergville.

Explosion of No. Hampton tanker destroys neighborhood

welve hours after one of his drivers lost control of a tanker truck carrying thousands of gallons of gasoline, sparking a Wednesday morning fire in Everett, Mass., that burned homes and cars, Curtis Marston was hoarse from being “up all night.”

A partner in North Hampton’s P.S. Marston Associates with his brother, Paul, Curtis said nothing like this has happened since the company was founded by his father, Paul Sr., in 1973. A report later in the day from WCVB-TV of Boston cited past problems for the North Hampton company, also known as Abenaqui Carriers, as well as Dover resident Chad LaFrance, the employee driving the tanker.

Wednesday’s accident spilled 9,400 gallons of burning fuel into a sleeping community. Witnesses said a 10-foot wall of flame flowed through the neighborhood below a traffic circle where the tanker flipped, blowing up cars and destroying two triple-decker, multifamily homes. Nearby residents were hastily evacuated, including about 84 residents of an elderly housing complex and 10 to 12 families that lost their homes in the fire. No one was seriously injured.

Truck explosion closes I-35E

A tanker truck hauling gasoline crashed and exploded Thursday afternoon on Interstate 35E in Lake Dallas, killing the driver and shutting down the highway in both directions between Lewisville and Denton.

Two men inside the truck were burned in the accident, and one of them later died.

Texas state troopers said the truck was northbound shortly before 2 p.m. when the driver abruptly hit the brakes and lost control, clipping a car and striking a median barrier. The truck overturned across the median and burst into flames.

A witness said the driver was engulfed in flames when he jumped out of the truck.

Trapped driver freed after truck rolls over

A tractor trailer leaves the Broome County Landfill heads north on Knapp Road, when all of a sudden, the driver loses control at the sharp turn.

“It appears to have rolled over one time, at this time the cause can be due to high speed, unsafe speed,” said Sgt. John Lynch of the NY State Police in Kirkwood.

Moments later, crews arrive on scene, working fast to free the driver trapped inside.

“Because the roof was crushed down on the cab of the truck, we wound up cutting the post on the top of the roof and then we folded the roof on down of the road and used that to basically extricate the patient. He was pinned between the floor and the roof of the truck,” said Gary Smith, the Glen Aubrey Fire Chief.
