Log truck driver escapes rollover

A 70-year-old driver had a lucky escape yesterday when his log truck rolled on Glen Huon Rd, near Huonville.

The truck was travelling east towards Huonville yesterday when it failed to take a left-hand turn.

The truck crossed the road and ended up in a culvert on the right-hand side of the road.

The driver suffered minor bruises and lacerations and was taken to the Hobart Private Hospital but discharged soon after.

The trailer lost its load of veneer logs and the traffic was impeded for nearly five hours.

The crash scene was attended by the Tasmania Fire Service, which dispersed diesel fuel that had spilled on to the road.

Huonville police constable Craig Vermey said the driver was “a very lucky man”.

“The driver’s side of the prime mover went down into the ditch, so he would have suffered the full impact,” he said.

“I was surprised that he only had minor injuries.”

Police believed the load on the truck may have moved, causing the trailer to roll.

The bend had a recommended speed of 45km/h and police said witnesses believed the truck was travelling at that speed or less.

The logs were being taken to Watson’s Sawmill in Huonville.

Last year, a 40-year-old log truck driver was trapped for nearly four hours when his fully laden log truck crashed off the Bridle Track Rd between Sheffield and Kimberley.

Explosion of No. Hampton tanker destroys neighborhood

welve hours after one of his drivers lost control of a tanker truck carrying thousands of gallons of gasoline, sparking a Wednesday morning fire in Everett, Mass., that burned homes and cars, Curtis Marston was hoarse from being “up all night.”

A partner in North Hampton’s P.S. Marston Associates with his brother, Paul, Curtis said nothing like this has happened since the company was founded by his father, Paul Sr., in 1973. A report later in the day from WCVB-TV of Boston cited past problems for the North Hampton company, also known as Abenaqui Carriers, as well as Dover resident Chad LaFrance, the employee driving the tanker.

Wednesday’s accident spilled 9,400 gallons of burning fuel into a sleeping community. Witnesses said a 10-foot wall of flame flowed through the neighborhood below a traffic circle where the tanker flipped, blowing up cars and destroying two triple-decker, multifamily homes. Nearby residents were hastily evacuated, including about 84 residents of an elderly housing complex and 10 to 12 families that lost their homes in the fire. No one was seriously injured.

A DRUNK lorry driver who drove the wrong way down the A14 carriageway into the path of an oncoming police officer has been jailed.

Truck driver displayed graphic anti-abortion images

For some Black Friday shoppers at the Mall of Georgia, crowded stores were not their only complaint.

Gwinnett County Police Corporal Illana Spellman said shoppers called police to complain about a man driving a truck displaying gory images outside of the mall.

“A man was driving a paneled truck that had some graphic photos of aborted fetuses,” said Spellman.

She said a Gwinnett County officer gave the driver of the truck the option to display other anti-abortion banners without the photos.

Truck wreck closes I-5 near Goshen; cleanup takes hours

Northbound Interstate 5 was closed for 10 hours Monday after a truck hauling flammable corrosives hit a guardrail and flipped onto its side, blocking both lanes.

The truck’s contents did not spill, but efforts to stabilize and remove them took much of the day, state Department of Transportation spokesman Joe Harwood said.

At one point, northbound traffic was backed up two miles while drivers skirted the mess by exiting I-5 at Highway 58 and immediately getting back on.

Oregon State Police cited commercial truck driver Dathon Branch, 30, of La Crosse, Wis., for failing to drive within a traffic lane.

Truck driver, 34, killed in rear-end crash east of Indio

A 34-year-old truck driver from the Los Angeles area was killed near Chiriaco Summit when his truck rear-ended another big rig on Interstate 10 east of Indio.

According to California Highway Patrol reports, the male driver, described as a Hispanic man from Los Angeles whose name is being withheld pending notification of kin, was driving at about 74 mph in the No. 2 lane and approached a 1999 Kenworth also traveling in that lane near the Cactus City rest area.

The Kenworth was driven by Arturo Villa, 49, of Tucson, Ariz., and was traveling at a lower speed. For reasons still under investigation, according to the California Highway Patrol, the Freightliner rear-ended the Kenworth.

The impact caused what CHP is calling “complete intrusion damage” to the Freightliner, killing the driver instantly. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Tullamarine Freeway blocked after crash

DRIVERS heading towards Melbourne airport were trapped in a morning traffic snarl when a fatal truck collision blocked one of Melbourne’s busiest freeways for more than two hours.

The mayhem began yesterday when two trucks travelling outbound on the Tullamarine Freeway collided nose to tail near the Bell St off ramp, killing the driver of the rear truck.

It is believed two cars — a white Commodore station wagon and a red Nissan Pintara travelling with its hazard lights flashing — slowed in front of an airfreight truck, causing the driver to hit the brakes and a second truck, carrying food produce, to plough into the back of it.

The driver of the rear truck died at the scene.

Police have appealed for the drivers of the Commodore and Pintara to come forward to assist with their investigation.

Desert Chase Ends In Police Shootout At Chiriaco Summit

A pickup truck driver who ran a stop sign led police on a 48-mile, high-speed desert chase before he was killed during a rolling Interstate 10 shootout near Chiriaco (Shih-RAY’-koh) Summit.

A Cathedral City police officer tried to stop the pickup Thursday, but the driver sped away, reaching speeds up to 120 mph as the California Highway Patrol joined the desert chase 130 miles east of Los Angeles.

CHP Officer Tami Low says 32-year-old Johnnie Robert Lopez “opened the rear-window slider and starting shooting out the back of the truck.”

Three officers involved in the pursuit fired back and the wounded Joshua Tree man lost control of the pickup.

He was found dead in the truck.
